Joining device, especially welding tongs, comprises a working tool (6) and a counter tool (2). An electric drive is provided for operating the working tool and for impinging a pressing force (F). The device also includes a unit for measuring the travelling direction of the working tool during a lifting movement, a unit for measuring the electric current (i) of the electric drive, storage units for storing changes of the current and/or speed, and an evaluation unit for adapting a working current (iA) necessary for producing the pressing force depending on the stored changes.
