Monometallic azo complexes of late transition metals for olefin polymerisation

Transition metal complexes (I) with azo ligands are new. Transition metal complexes of formula (I) containing azo ligands are new. [Image] Nu1oxygen, sulfur, selenium, PRa, NRa or COO; Ra : hydrogen, alkyl or aryl; R and R1-R4hydrogen, halo or (all optionally substituted) 1-8C alkyl, 2-8C alkenyl, 3-12C cycloalkyl, 7-13C aralkyl or 6-14C aryl, or R1 with any of R2-R4 or R2 with R3 or R4 together form a ring; M1element of subgroups 4-12; L1neutral ligand; L2anionic ligand, and L1 and L2 may be linked through one or more covalent bonds; and z : 1-3. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) method for preparing (I) by reacting ligand (II) with 0.2-5 equivalents of one of the metal compounds M1X4, M1X3, M1L1L2 or M1X2, where any other than M1L1L2 may be stabilized by additional neutral ligands; (2) method for preparing olefin (co)polymers (III) by reacting optionally functionalized 1-olefins, cyclo-olefins or their mixtures in presence of (I); (3) products of the reaction between (I) and a co-catalyst; (4) (III) prepared by method (2); and (5) molded articles prepared from (III).
