PURPOSE: Provided is a method for producing an aluminium titanate-zirconium titanate ceramic which has low thermal expansion coefficient, is stabilized at a high melting point and is useful as a heat-proofing and refractory material having excellent thermal durability. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of: mixing 40-60 mol% of Al2O3, 60-40 mol% of TiO2 and 3-7 mol% of MgO, grinding the mixture, and forming and sintering the ground mixture to obtain an aluminum titanate powder; mixing 40-60 mol% of ZrO2 and 60-40 mol% of TiO2, grinding the mixture, and forming and sintering the ground mixture to obtain a zirconium titanate powder; and mixing the aluminum powder together with the zirconium titanate powder, and forming and sintering the mixed powder to obtain an aluminum titanate-zirconium titanate ceramic which is low in thermal expansion.
