Method for confirmation of ATM link state using operation administration and maintenance cell

PURPOSE: A method for confirming the state of an ATM link by using an OAM(Operation, Administration and Maintenance) cell is provided to make an end-point, directly connected to an ATM network, receive an OAM cell and transmit the information of an abnormal link to a lower processor through the information of the received OAM cell, when a network fault occurs, so that the lower processor can execute communication with right link information. CONSTITUTION: If a fault occurs in an ATM network(S101), an OAM cell is transmitted to the first end-point(S102). The first end-point analyzes the received cell and confirms the fault path(S103). Then the first end-point updates an ATM address table(S104) and transmits an OAM cell to inform the second end-point that the fault has occurred(S105). Receiving the OAM cell, the second end-point checks a specific bit in the received OAM cell in order to catch the fault path(S106,S107). Then the second end-point executes communication through a new path instead of the fault path(S108), and updates the ATM address table(S109).
