摘要

PURPOSE: An optical coupling system by using a mode conversion is provided to have a various application fields as well as be manufactured more easily and be more cheaper than those of a conventional optical coupling system. CONSTITUTION: An optical coupling system by using a mode conversion includes a first optical waveguide(10) provided with a first grating(2) with a narrow mode conversion bandwidth, a second optical waveguide(12) provided with a second grating(4) with a wide mode conversion bandwidth and an effective refraction matching layer(30). A portion of wavelength components among a first mode of optical signals inputted to the first optical waveguide(10) is converted into a second mode by the first grating(2) with the narrow mode conversion bandwidth to be reflected to the second optical waveguide(12) adjacent to the first optical waveguide(10) and the second mode reflected from the second grating(4) with the wide mode conversion bandwidth on the second optical waveguide(12) is converted into a third mode to be transmitted to the second optical waveguide(12).
