PURPOSE: Provided is an essential oil which is extracted from Eleutherococcus senticosus Max., and effectively used in antimycotics or cosmetics as a natural antiseptic or disinfectant. CONSTITUTION: A method for extracting an essential oil from the leaves of Eleutherococcus senticosus Max. comprises the steps of: surface-sterilizing the target material in 1% of a sodium hypochlorite solution for 10 minutes and cleaning it; putting 500g of the cleaned material onto a flask and adding 15 liters of distilled water thereto; heating the solution at 75-80 deg.C for 10 hours to collect an essential oil; adding ether to the essential oil; and evaporating the ether from the mixture to give a pure essential oil.
