PURPOSE: A method and system for displaying days and nights on a map of the world in a portable phone is provided to separately display daytime areas and nighttime areas on a map of the world. CONSTITUTION: A system for displaying days and nights on a map of the world in a portable phone comprises a transmitting-receiving part(201), a control part(202), a time table storage part(203), an image storage part(204), a key input part(205), and a display part(206). The transmitting-receiving part(201) receives time information from a base station periodically and provides it to the control part(202). The time table storage part(203) stores basic data necessary to calculate the time of each area throughout the world on the basis of the time information of the location of the portable phone. The image storage part(204) stores the image of a world map to be displayed to the user. The key input part(205) provides a day/night display command, inputted from the user, to the control part(202). The display part(206) provides information related to the daytime areas and nighttime areas of the world to the user.
