PREPARATION METHOD OF FLUID BARRIER FOR PREVENTING DETERIORATION OF FLUID BARRIER PROPERTY AND DECREASE OF SOLID CONTENT

PURPOSE: A water-absorbing sheet material as a fluid barrier and its preparation method are provided, to allow a buried monomer to be polymerized completely without partial polymerization before contact with a substrate for preventing the deterioration of a fluid barrier property. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of contacting a liquid-absorbing polymerization initiation base material or a material used in the preparation of the liquid-absorbing polymerization initiation base material with a polymerization initiator or a polymerization catalyst to produce a polymerization initiation sheet material for a monomer buried later; burying the polymerization initiation sheet material with a clay-containing slurry comprising water, clay and a monomer to be polymerized to form a water-absorbing polymer; and polymerizing the monomer and heating the buried sheet material at a temperature sufficient for vaporize at least some of the water of slurry to form a water-absorbing polymer and linking the polymer and clay in the sheet material. The amount of water is less than about 50 wt% to the amount of slurry and the ratio of the monomer tot he clay is about 1:19 to 19:1 by weight in the slurry.
