PURPOSE: To provide a process and a system for producing synthesis gas capable of producing the synthesis gas cost-effectively and efficiently and reducing the oxygen consumption by comprising steps of endothermic and/or adiabatic catalytic steam reforming and autothermal steam reforming in series. CONSTITUTION: The process comprises steps of (a) endothermic and/or adiabatic catalytic steam reforming; and (b) auto-thermal steam reforming, wherein the steam reforming is performed in at least one endothermic stages in series and/or in at least one adiabatic steam reforming stages in series with intermediately heating feed fuel gas leaving the adiabatic reforming stages and carbon monoxide containing gas having a molar ratio of hydrogen to carbon of less than 4.5 is added prior to at least one of the endothermic or adiabatic steam reforming stages and/or prior to the autothermal steam reforming step.
