Gatekeeper having a variable prefix function and method for controlling the gatekeeper

PURPOSE: A gatekeeper having a variable prefix function and a control method thereof are provided to automatically connect an Internet call to a callee by extracting required digits of a prefix number even though a user does not input the entire phone number. CONSTITUTION: An interface(210) includes software and hardware for executing data transmission/reception to and from an Internet phone. A user database(230) stores a prefix number and phone number/IP address conversion table. An RAS(Registration/Admission/Status) processor(220-1) executes registration, admission and status processing. A call processor(220-2) executes functions of controlling a bandwidth, connecting and releasing a call between end points(Internet phones). A variable prefix processor(220-3) executes a process of generating a destination number completed by using a variable prefix number registered in the user database(230) and a process of reading an IP address corresponding to the destination number.
