A FORMAT TRANSCODING METHOD USING FRAME FEATURE

PURPOSE: A method for converting a compression type using frame characteristics is provided to convert an intra macro block of an MPEG2 P frame into an H.263 inter macro block by using frame characteristics that intra macro blocks are more than intra macro blocks, thereby converting in real time as increasing compressibility. CONSTITUTION: A system inputs a bit stream compressed by MPEG2 to restore a frame by performing a motion prediction process, and finds out information on a type of the restored frame and macro blocks(S1). The system confirms the restored frame type of the bit stream from the found information(S2). If the restored frame type is an I frame or an inter macro block of a P frame, the system performs an H.263 quantization process and a VLC(Variable Length Coding) process by reusing motion vector information and macro block information, and generates a bit stream converted into H.263(S3). If the restored frame type is the P frame and an intra macro block, the system corrects the motion vector information and the macro block information through a motion prediction process, converts an intra macro block into an inter macro block, and generates the converted bit stream by performing the H.263 quantization process and the VLC process(S4).
