PURPOSE: A mechanically welded structure having a stress reduction slit and a liquefied gas transport ship having the structure are provided to reduce the stress of various structural elements by the stress reduction slit and to reduce factors related to the setting of the dimension of the structural elements. CONSTITUTION: A mechanically welded structure having a stress reduction slit(12) has a first structural element(10) of a flat thin plate metal material spreading in a plane and having one side forming a boundary by a linear edge(15), and a second structural element(20) of a metal material welded to the linear edge of the first structural element or combined to the linear edge and welded to an intermediate element(25) inserted between the first structural element and the second structural element. The second structural element gives force reaching the plane vertically to the linear edge to at least one spot(151) of the linear edge. The force is decomposed into at least one component. The first structural element spreads parallel to the linear edge and has the stress reduction slit opposed to the spot to which the force is given.
