PURPOSE: An image processing method using a CMOS(Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) image sensor, color interpolation and a white balance algorithm and an apparatus therefor are provided to interpolate data between pixels and simultaneously control a white balance. CONSTITUTION: A CMOS image sensor(1) detects an image. A gamma correction signal processing unit(2) corrects difference between the image signal detected in the CMOS image sensor(1) and an image signal to be displayed on a screen. An image processing unit(3) adds two adjacent pixels or four adjacent pixels, interpolates the corrected image signal, and processes colors of the interpolated image signal. A white balance processing unit(4) acquires an optimal image quality from a data table. A space converting unit(5) converts an RGB value of each pixel outputted from the white balance processing unit(4) into a YCbCr value. An image signal filtering unit(6) filters the image signal for converting the image signal outputted through the space converting unit(5) into high-definition image data.
