PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing a phenyl derivative compound separated from Ganoderma applanatum having excellent inhibiting activity against aldose reductase to suppress the accumulation of final products of saccharification is provided. Therefore, the composition can be used in prevention and treatment of Diabetes Mellitus or diseases associated with Diabetes Mellitus such as hyperglycemia, atherosclerosis, microangiopathy, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetic retinopathy and one or more combinations of other diabetic eye diseases. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of Diabetes Mellitus contains a compound represented by the formula(1) and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, carrier or excipient. In formula, R1 is H, hydroxy, C1-4 alkyl or alkoxy; R2 to R6 are H, hydroxy, C1-4 alkyl or alkoxy and can have one or more of the same substituents at the same time. The pharmaceutical composition contains 0.5 to 50% by weight of the compound, which is prepared by extracting Ganoderma applanatum in water, lower alcohol or a mixed solvent at 20 to 100deg.C for 0.5hr to 1 day and then subjecting to chromatography.
