PURPOSE: A transfer case having two planetary gear sets with a common carrier is provided to reduce the installation space of the transfer case by combining function of a deceleration planetary gear set and function of a differential gear seat with compact design. CONSTITUTION: A transfer case for a four-wheel drive vehicle is composed of a housing(50), an input shaft(52) rotated and supported in the housing to receive power from a transmission, front and rear output shafts(60), a common carrier assembly(114), clutches(118,180) engaged with a deceleration ring gear and connected to the housing or the common carrier assembly, and an actuator(190) engaged with the clutches to selectively place the clutches. The common carrier assembly supports a planetary gear set(80), and comprises a driving plate, a differential plate and a deceleration plate. The driving plate is arranged between the deceleration plate and the differential plate, and engaged with the clutch to place the reduction gear set.
