PURPOSE: A device for controlling a digital camera of a mobile communication terminal by using an SMS, and a method therefor is provided to freely take a photograph or moving picture of a subject by remotely controlling a digital camera. CONSTITUTION: A user of a terminal transmits an SMS(Short Message Service) control message for taking a photograph of a subject to the terminal having a digital camera(201). The terminal receives the SMS control message(202). The terminal judges whether a password included in the received SMS control message coincides with a password preliminarily set in the terminal(203). If so, the terminal judges whether a mode of the digital camera is a remote control standby mode(204). If the passwords do not coincide, the terminal processes the SMS message as a general message(205). If the mode of the digital camera is the remote control standby mode, the received SMS message is read(206). If the SMS message is a message for taking a photograph of the subject, the digital camera takes a photograph of the subject and stores the image data on a memory, and then enters an idle mode(207,209). If the SMS message is a message for taking a moving picture of the subject, the digital camera takes a moving picture of the subject and stores the moving picture data on the memory(208).
