PURPOSE: A Pd-La-Si catalyst for obtaining ethylene having high purity by selectively hydrogenating acetylene in ethylene containing acetylene, and a preparation method of the Pd-La-Si catalyst are provided. CONSTITUTION: In a hydrogenation catalyst for selectively hydrogenating acetylene in ethylene containing acetylene, the hydrogenation catalyst comprises 0.05 to 2.0 wt.% of palladium, 0.07 to 2.6 wt.% of lanthanum and 0.0001 to 0.065 wt.% of silicon with the balance being a support. In a preparation method of a hydrogenation catalyst for selectively hydrogenating acetylene into ethylene, the preparation method comprises first process of supporting palladium onto the support by drying and firing the aqueous solution impregnated support after impregnating a support with a tetraamine palladium hydroxide aqueous solution; second process of supporting lanthanum onto the support by drying and firing the aqueous solution impregnated palladium supported support after impregnating the palladium supported support (Pd catalyst) with a lanthanum compound aqueous solution; third process of depositing a silicon compound on the reduced support at a temperature of 200 to 300 deg.C after reducing the palladium and lanthanum supported support (Pd-La catalyst) under hydrogen stream having a temperature of 350 to 700 deg.C; and fourth process of reducing the silicon compound deposited palladium and lanthanum supported support at a temperature of 300 to 600 deg.C for 1 to 5 hours.
