摘要

PURPOSE: A microbial fuel cell for a low concentration BOD meter, its operation method, its high density cultivation and a low concentration BOD meter using the microbial fuel cell are provided, to improve sensitivity, precision, reproducibility and stability even at low concentration by decreasing the area of an ion exchange membrane fro reducing the diffusion of oxygen. CONSTITUTION: The microbial fuel cell comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, their conductive mediate, and an ion exchange membrane between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, wherein the positive electrode is made of a metal having a high affinity to oxygen. Preferably the metal having a high affinity to oxygen is platinum or copper. Preferably the membrane area of the ion exchange membrane is obtained by dividing the amount of hydrogen ion generated per time with the transmission velocity of hydrogen ion through a membrane based on the maximum BOD removing velocity.
