PURPOSE: A light guide member, a surface light source device having the light guide member, a liquid crystal display device having the light guide member as a surface light source, and a method for processing the light guide member are provided to realize uniform brightness by suppressing ununiformity of brightness over a whole area of an exit plane of a light guide member without losing light exit efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A light guide member(4) has an incidence plane(4a) for letting light enter from a light source, a reflecting plane reflecting the entered light, and an exit plane for letting the reflected light exit. Regular prominence and depression are formed on the reflective plane in direction along with the incidence plane. Irregular prominence and depression are formed on the exit plane, wherein average plane illumination in direction along with an end opposite to the incidence plane is 0.01-0.5 m and average plane illumination in direction along with the incidence plane is 0.01-1.0 m.
