METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING A GEM OAM FRAME IN A GPON, CONCERNED WITH IMPLEMENTING OAM FUNCTION IN A GEM MODE

PURPOSE: A method for transmitting a GEM(GPON(Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) Encapsulation Method) OAM(Operation, Administration and Maintenance) frame in a GPON is provided to implement OAM in a GEM mode by defining an OAM frame structure of the GEM mode. CONSTITUTION: An OAM payload part includes an OAM type field(502), a function type field(503), an OAM function specific field(504) and a CRC(Cyclical Redundancy Check) field(505). In order to indicate a GEM OAM heading for a specific ONT(Optical Network Terminal), a port ID field(506) of a header part(501) is used. Namely, a portion of the port ID field is used to indicate the OAM payload. Or, a port ID of the ONU(Optical Network Unit)/ONT is newly defined and a port ID for a certain ONU/ONT is allocated as 'A' and 'B', so if the port ID field designates 'A', a corresponding payload is a general GEM frame, whereas if the port ID field designates 'B', the corresponding payload is the OAM frame.
