PURPOSE: A GTC(GPON(Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) Transmission Convergence) frame structure for transmitting ONT(Optical Network Terminal) management control information in a GPON and a transmission method thereof are provided to offer a mechanism for exchanging control information for each ATM mode client or each GEM(GPON Encapsulation Method) mode client. CONSTITUTION: A GTC frame is divided into a PCBD(Physical Control Block Downstream) field(500) and a payload field(510). The PCBD field(500) includes a PSync field(51) for synchronization, an Ident field(52) indicating a state of FEC use and key-switching for indication of a long frame, a PLOAM(Physical Layer Operations And Maintenance) field(53), and an OMCC(ONT Management Control Channel) field(54) for transferring OMCI(ONT Management Control Interface) information. The OMCC field(54) includes a field(55) including a destination VPI(Virtual Path Identifier)/VCI(Virtual Channel Identifier) in support of an ATM mode or a port ID in support of a GEM mode.
