PURPOSE: A plant protein material entangled with polyacrylate is provided which can be successfully used as a plant protein adhesive of a coated pigment, polymer latex and paper coating composition. It is also used in small amounts as compared with conventional plant protein adhesives as well as showing a functional characteristic and other properties of a paper coating composition equal to that of conventional paper-coating compositions. CONSTITUTION: This protein adhesive is prepared by the following steps of: preparing plant protein material and alkaline dispersion of polyacrylate, mixing the polyacrylate and plant protein material to make them implement entanglement under the condition of certain temperature and time; and coprecipitating it at the isoelectric point of the plant protein. The protein adhesive is present in an amount of about 0.5 to 1.5% by weight, based on the total weight of a pigment, polymer latex and protein adhesive.
