PURPOSE: Provided is a platinum/carbon powder, which comprises platinum particles uniformly and finely coated on carbon powder to give a sufficient redox region, and thus is useful for a catalytic layer in manufacturing a fuel cell having excellent life and output characteristics. CONSTITUTION: The platinum/carbon powder is prepared by the method comprising the steps of: dispersing carbon powder into a solution to form a carbon dispersion; and adding a platinum salt solution and a reducing agent to the carbon dispersion at a rate of 10-20 (mmole/min.) to perform a redox reaction, while the reaction solution is neutralized by using a base. Particularly, the platinum salt is chloroplatinate(IV). The platinum/carbon powder has a particle diameter of 3-10 nm.
