PURPOSE: An apparatus for manufacturing metal matrix composites in which reinforcing particles are uniformly distributed, and a method for manufacturing aluminum metal matrix composites which is inexpensive, has superior casting application property and enables effective mass-production of ingot using the apparatus are provided. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for manufacturing metal matrix composites comprises a melting furnace having a chamber for receiving a metal material; a heating means for manufacturing molten metal by heating a metal material in the chamber; an injection means which is equipped with two or more injection ports for injecting a mixture of a carrier gas and reinforcing particles into the chamber so that the injection ports are positioned at a 1/5 to 3/5 point of elevation of the molten metal from the bottom of the chamber, and a stirring means for uniformly dispersing the reinforcing particles into the molten metal using ascending action by stirring. The method for manufacturing aluminum metal matrix composites comprises the steps of manufacturing molten aluminum using a means for heating the chamber of the melting furnace; injecting a mixture of a carrier gas and reinforcing particles into molten metal using an injection means equipped with nozzles on which a plurality of fine holes are formed as changing the injection position from a 1/5 to 3/5 point of elevation of the molten metal from the bottom of the chamber; and uniformly dispersing the reinforcing particles into molten metal using a stirring means.
