PURPOSE: A character information processing device for performing a printing process is provided to revive a contained character string to a buffer or a text area when a revive command is assigned from a key input unit by operating a revive key, thereby compensating for a wrong operation without a complex operational panel surface. CONSTITUTION: An input portion(10) consists of a key input unit(11) and a tape width detecting sensor(12). The key input unit(11) generates character code data or various control data. The tape width detecting sensor(12) detects a width of a loaded tape, and supplies information on the detected width to a controller(20). An output portion(30) comprises as follows. A tape/ribbon forwarding motor(31) forwards the loaded tape or an ink ribbon. A thermal head(32) performs a printing process by a thermal transferring function. The tape/ribbon forwarding motor(31) and the thermal head(32) are driven by a motor driving circuit(33) or a head driving circuit(34) under control of the controller(20).
