METHOD FOR DETECTING ADENOVIRAL CONJUNCTIVITIS OUTBREAKS

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves taking blood samples from acute conjunctivitis patient having from 3 to 10 days long illness period when conjunctivitis cases number grows 1.8 times as high when compared to the value observed in the like period of previous year. Leukocyte number is counted in parallel in two samples. Adenovirus of type 8 is added to one of them and physiological salt solution is added to the other one. The injured neutrophil number is counted in case and control sample. The difference being greater than 5 (when at least 100 cells are counted), adenoviral conjunctivitis outbreak is considered to be the case. EFFECT: accelerated and simplified method.
