Reducing the concentration of dissolved metals e.g. iron and manganese in water comprising accumulating dissolved metals within enrichment container to effect unpressurized de-gasification of the mixture of air and water while accumulating static pressure and triggering the enrichment process, is new. An Independent claim is also included for an assembly in which the treatment unit is positioned within a gravel-filled shaft which functions both as an infiltration well and immediately adjacent abstraction well. The filter length of the infiltration well is identical with that of the abstraction well. The ratio of the filter overall inlet to outlet surfaces between infiltration well and abstraction well is 1 : 3.75. The pipe between the enrichment container and infiltration well is a closed system. The introduction and distribution of the enrichment water into the infiltration well takes place exclusively from the enrichment container. The process is regulated by programmable logic controls. The operational reliability is maximized by the use of preferably two closed-circuit systems. One system consists of the enrichment container and infiltration well. The second system consists of a water pump and an abstraction well.
