Super-critical, catalytic, thermal oxidation of aqueous organic material, e.g. industrial solid waste, and energy recovery from rubbish, biomass or sewage, comprises use of high velocity recirculation and controlled solids separation
Organic waste material is thermally oxidized as an aqueous suspension by heating to approximately 374degreesC and 100-221 bar and pumping through a reactor, with continuous screening through a large area filter and recirculation of at least 50% of the product to the reactor. The filter is preferably nickel or nickel alloy, but may be ceramic containing finely divided nickel. The reactor is operated at a circulation rate of 3-10 times the feed rate. Independent claims are included for a reactor and a catalytically active filter screen.
