Dimples are formed in the bottle wall which have the same dimensions that would be produced by self-forming under internal or external pressure. Folded ribs formed between dimples are created simultaneously with the dimples and have an internal radius(5) not less than5%, preferably not less than10%, more preferably 20%, greater than the similar radius created by self-forming. Dimple radius(4) is also not less than5%, preferably not less than10% and more preferably 20% greater than that achieved by self-forming. An intermediate product is created by heating and forming a thin flat metal sheet to produce the dimple and fold structure. The intermediate product is then formed in a tool into a bottle, can or container. Alternatively a plastic melt preform is produced and then formed in a blowing tool. Dimpled plastic foam bottles with a diameter of 50-80mm, preferably 65mm, have 6-10, preferably 8, dimples around the circumference and four rows of dimples along the bottle length. Dimple radius is 35-60mm and folded rib radius 1-5mm. Bottles, cans or containers may be waisted.
