The cooling process cools a rotating chipping tool (2) and/or the workpiece in the machining zone. The coolant is supplied through a coolant channel in the tool. The coolant used consists of liquefied industrial gases. As the gases come out of the tool coolant channel, they are evaporated. Liquid carbon dioxide may be used as the coolant.
