The tool has a tool holder (12) with fixing element (19) with shaft (22) and clamping head (24). The cutting insert (13) to be fixed thereon has a slot (36) which connects the aperture (30) for the fixing element to an outside edge of the cutting insert. The width of the slot is no smaller than the thickness of the shaft section. The fixing element is mounted non-detachable in the tool holder. Independent claim describes method for fixing cutting insert which in the loosened position of the fixing element is moved across its extension over the shaft of the fixing element.
