The lift mechanism (1) which moves across the travel direction has a cable drum (2) with support cables (5, 6) running round cable grooves (8, 9) formed in the drum face. The support cables of the two grooves which are next to each other run down to stops (7) across the longitudinal direction of the drum. Each one cable of a pair of cables is guided down over at least one turning element (10). To detect vibrations of the cables in the cable drum longitudinal direction an angle transmitter (11) is mounted on one of the cables and sends an angle signal through which the movement of the lift mechanism is controlled in order to compensate vibrations in the travel direction.
