A central selector or gear-shift shaft (4) is positioned in a gear housing (2) and causes a clutch to be operated and a clutch selected as a result of the shaft turning and axially moving. A transmission element (6) positioned on the main or auxiliary shaft.transfers the rotary movement of the shaft into a longitudinal movement of a bolt(10) in the gear housing. The shape (12) of the bolt is like that of the selector forces onto which a catch element (16,18) in the housing works.
