Inducing or increasing (M1) resistance of plants to at least one pathogen comprising: (a) reducing the amount, activity or function of a RacB protein (I) in a plant, or its tissue, organ, part or cell; and (b) selecting plants for increased resistance, relative to the parent plant, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) barley RacB protein (Ia) having a 197 amino acid (aa) sequence (2), reproduced; (2) polypeptides (Ib) of 212, 197 or 213 aa (reproduced) that are functional equivalents of (Ia); (3) dominant-negative variant (Ic) of (Ia); (4) nucleic acid sequences (II) that encode (Ia), (Ib) or (Ic); (5) double-stranded RNA (III) that reduces expression of RacB; (6) transgenic expression cassette (EC) containing a promoter linked to (II) or a sequence that encodes (III); (7) transgenic vector containing EC; and (8) transgenic organism containing (II), sequence encoding (III), EC or the vector.
