The driven unit and engine control for an articulated piston engine has a gear (1) for the conversion of the articulated movement into a rotational movement consisting of a gearwheel (3) installed on the articulated piston shaft (2) and meshing with the teeth (4) of at least one gear rack (5) so that the gear rack executes a reciprocating movement with the engine running. The gear rack drives a crankshaft (7) via a connecting rod (6), and for engine control an additional gearwheel with a freewheel for one articulating direction is installed on the articulated piston shaft.
