A safe method for explosive demolition of structures containing hazardous materials, e.g. asbestos, mineral wool etc., has the structure fitted with water sprays to moisten the areas where the hazardous materials are sited. The water is supplied via a high pressure network and the sprays have integral non return valves. The spray system can be removed prior to detonation. The structure is dropped onto a target area surrounded by further sprays which operate during blasting.
