The method involves measuring the oxygen content in the vehicle interior (21) with an oxygen sensor (20) and comparing it with a predefined lower threshold value in a controller (10). The controller operates a device (15,23) for opening at least one vehicle part (12,24) on reaching or falling below the lower threshold and holds it open at least until a desired oxygen content has been achieved in the interior.
