The method involves measuring the gas drawn into the compressor's induction channel or the gas transport channel (8) before the gas inlet opening of the compressor (3) with a sensor (7) at a distance before the gas inlet opening of the compressor at a point at which the uneven gas flow caused by compressor operation is practically negligible in its effect on the operation of the compressor and hence of the fuel cell (2). AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) an arrangement for determining the mass of gas drawn into a fuel cell system by a compressor.
