The hearing aid (1) is powered by a self-charging battery (6), e.g. a zinc-air battery, the self-charging process using oxygen obtained from the ambient air via at least one ventilation opening (13A,13D,13G) in the battery compartment housing (12), with selective blocking of the gas exchange between the battery and the ambient air, for halting the self-charging process, by blocking the ventilation openings, e.g. via a movable seal (14).
