Device has a gripper (11) with a controllable manipulator for handling workpieces or components (12) whose position relative to the gripper is undefined. The gripper also has at least one optical recording device (16) which, after picking up of the component and during its movement, makes one or more recordings of it. The images are evaluated by an evaluation and control unit that controls movement of the gripper based on the image information.
