The controller adjusts the angle of a camshaft relative to a crankshaft by means of a wobble plate gearbox between the camshaft and the crankshaft. At least one first marker (4) is applied to a first engine part (1) with the rotation angle of the crankshaft and at least one second marker (5,6) is applied to a second engine part (2) with the rotation angle of the camshaft and the markers are detected by a sensor (3).
