Polyurethane foam is produced by mixing polyol component, isocyanate component, water, and optionally additive in a mixing chamber at pressures 3-200 bar to form a polyurethane reaction mixture; generating bubble nuclei in the mixture by atomization in a pressure-reduction body at pressures 3-200 bar; flowing the mixture through a throttle body; and applying the mixture containing bubble nuclei to a substrate for foaming and curing. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for continuous production of polyurethane foam, comprising a mixing unit having a mixing chamber and supply lines for reaction components and a discharge opening for reaction mixture; a pressure-reduction body connected to the discharge opening; and an adjustable throttle body arranged in the direction of flow downstream of the pressure-reduction body.
