A method for securely fitting guide shafts into a disc brake housing, or into the calliper mounting, has each shaft (2) with a uniform diameter and with one end threaded (3) to secure into a threaded blind hole in the mounting. The end of each threaded hole has a tapering profile (23) which matches the tapering end of the shaft and into which the shaft is driven for a snug fit. The free end of the shaft is fitted with a socket (5) for a drive tool. No other fastenings are required.
