The beam energy regulation method uses at least 2 independent setting elements (11,12) for automatic continuous power regulation of the electron source electron beam between zero and 1200 kW, each of the setting elements regulating one of the electron source operating parameters, e.g. the cathode temperature of the indirectly-heated cathode, the cathode voltage, the focusing electrode voltage or the cathode-anode spacing.
