The hydrogen storage and metering system has a high pressure storage tank (4) and an associated expansion device (6) for reducing the storage pressure to the pressure required by the combustion engine and/or the fuel cell system (10), provided with a device, e.g. a heat exchanger (12), for warming the hydrogen during its expansion to the ambient temperature. An Independent claim for a method for storage and metering of hydrogen for a combustion engine and/or fuel cell system is also included.
