The absolute position measurement device has a code, a sensing device (AE) for sensing the code and generating a code word (CW), first and second memories (ROM1,2) for decoding the acquired code word and outputting decoded words as positions (POS1,2), and a comparator (COM) to which the positions of both memories are fed and that checks the positions from both memories for agreement.
