The use of curcumin or tetrahydrocurcumin esters o(I) in the production of cosmetic, dermatological or dermatological compositions, nutritional supplements or additives for nutritional supplement, food or feedstuff compositions. Some compounds (I) are new. Independent claims are included for: (1) the use of (I), with the exception of the diacetate, dipropionate, dibutyrate or diisobutyrate of curcumin or tetrahydrocurcumin, for the production of pharmaceutical compositions; (2) cosmetic, dermatological , nutritional supplement, food or feed compositions containing (I); (3) pharmaceutical compositions containing (I), with the exception of the diacetate, dipropionate, dibutyrate or diisobutyrate of curcumin or tetrahydrocurcumin; and (4) (I) as new compounds, provided that: (i) R3 and R4 are other than glycinoyloxy, hydroxyethyl-glycinoyloxy, benzoyloxy, nicotinoyloxy, nicotinoyloxy, clofibroyloxy, acetoxy, pivaloyloxy, propionyloxy, butyryloxy, isobutyryloxy, isovaleryloxy, stearyloxy, oleyloxy or linoleoyloxy if X-X is trans-CH=CH; and (ii) R3 and R4 are other than acetoxy, propionyloxy, butyryloxy or isobutyryloxy if X-X = CH2-CH2.
