The convertible motor vehicle (1) has a roof (2) with a rear (3) section and forward section (7) which when closed lies upon the occupant of the vehicle. The upper roof section comprises a transparent panel component which is movable opposite the direction of travel (F) like a sliding roof. The panel component in its opened position is supported parallel to a rear windscreen contained within the rear roof section and in this parallel position is movable with the roof for its opening and closing. An Independent claim is included for a hinged roof for a convertible motor vehicle.
