A flat component(1) of fiber reinforced plastic is completely enclosed by a frame comprising outer(2) and inner(3,3') tubes and crossbeams(4,4'). When assembled the inner tubes are at least partly enclosed by the outer tubes. A positive connection between all components is achieved by adhesive bonding. The flat component may form part of a vehicle roof or floor. When used as the former the tubes form longitudinal struts and in the latter act as sill boxes. No screws, rivets or bolts are used to connect the components together. The tubes(2,3,3') have cut-outs(7,7') into which column members forming A- and/or B-columns of a passenger car compartment are bonded. An Independent claim is included for a process for joining the components of the passenger compartment in which: a) a flat component(1) is manufactured in fiber reinforced plastic; b) the outer tubes(2) are located on the flat component so that they at least partly surround the side edges of the latter; c) the inner tubes(3,3') are inserted into the outer tubes and the ends of each pair of inner tubes are connected to each other by a crossbeam(4,4'); d) all connected part are then bonded together, either by adhesive injection or by forming adhesive reservoirs in the outer tubes which disperse adhesive when outer and inner tubes are brought together.
