Method for surface contouring of a 3D image (21) of an object has the following steps: laying of a first set of planes (E1-E5) through the image; determining of contours for each of the imaged planes; and joining together of the of the contours from the first sets of plates to form a surface contour of the 3D image on a corresponding surface grating.
